Born under a dark cloud…..

Fate….. Kismat … destiny …Luck…few random words but they play an important role in our life. There are numerous arguments talking in favour and against these words. It is said that a human being shapes his/her own destiny. A human being has been bestowed the power by the lord almighty to do so. But is it true? Can one influence one’s destiny? Is the concept of Karma redundant?

Scriptures talk about good karma, bad karma, current lives, previous lives, and their influence whereby modern thinking says that logic and your decisions shape your life and this is the only life you have, there is nothing previous or next, what is there; is what you have.

It is a conundrum no doubt. All of us in some shape or form has experienced this conundrum of fate— be it people getting promotions without putting in much effort… people being recognized for work not even worth a mention to people having worked like crazy and still not getting their due, people striving hard yet not able to achieve their goals.

An argument can come in on the work and education front whereby it can be argued that the rewards are directly proportional to the effort that has been put in, maybe yes… maybe no… but still maybe influenceable. But what about other aspects of life… Been born in a wealthy family… been born in a particular caste creed or religion, getting a soul mate, having an abusive relationship, having children, not having children and the list goes on and on…

A human mind is a constant quagmire of thoughts oscillating between positivity and negativity whereby negativity usually takes precedence. What cannot be influenced or controlled and determines the output of a life event forces the mind to consider fate.

The element of the unknown creates the mirage of dark clouds overwhelming life. It forces an individual to think of the imminent question; “why me?” a question which seemingly has no answer. Maybe the situation is a result of a wrong decision, maybe the situation is because of circumstances that overwhelmed you making you defer a decision, maybe its because you let yourself be manipulated by a person due to respect/love/societal pressures… so maybe the fate that you are thinking is maybe not luck but an outcome of incorrect/delayed decisions taken by you due to certain factors which you couldn’t control or were not able to fathom.

I myself feel that I was born under a dark cloud as nothing seems to ever go right in my life and I don’t understand the reason why? I can’t influence certain aspects and in certain cases have even given up hope for a change.

But there are numerous people who are yearning for the life that I am living. A well-placed professional with doting parents having all luxuries and amenities in life, being healthy, and with money to spare.

The concept of the “dark cloud”, “fate”, and “happiness” is specific to each individual and is governed by their personal sphere powering their life force. All we can do is keep the faith and fight the battle of life with a smile. There is nothing else that we can do about what is not in our control.

It is natural to feel low and depressed about things that are important yet uninfluenceable. But honestly, if they cannot be influenced what benefit will you get by ruining your mood or your day? Will anything change overnight? if you have personal issues-they will not go away by crying. If you still don’t have a soulmate, he/she won’t materialize out of thin air. If you have manipulative co-workers, they wouldn’t suddenly disappear, if you have an abusive relationship-it would not end by itself, if you are short of funds-they wouldn’t magically materialize in your account…

The truth of the matter is, what is uninfluenceable, what is outside your circle of influence….there is no option but to accept the hand that you have been dealt. All we as human beings can do is to try and work on changing the situation, if it cannot be changed, accept it and endure it till you can.

As human beings, we had no control over our birth and therefore have no control over the length of our life. What we have is what is visible to us, make the most of it, till you can. What other choice do we have so if nothing can be changed and we have to live with it, take a conscious decision to smile and plough through life however tough it is because crying and self-pity wouldn’t make it better too………
